Richard Norriss : Composer and Musician

Richard Norriss Composer MusicianRichard is a London based composer and musician who graduated from the Royal College of Music with a BA Hons, having studied piano with John Barstow, and piano accompaniment with Ruth Gerald.

Richard has been playing for dance since the age of 14, starting at a local Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) based school in Twickenham. Following that, he went on to play for many of the major dance and stage schools in the London area.

In Japan, he worked at Ashiya Ballet for 2 years, and he also played for the Hikone Intensive. Richard has worked at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts since 2002, and at the RAD since 2000.

Richard has composed, arranged and performed many original and established works; mostly ballet and contemporary dance items, but also musical theatre, physical theatre, silent film and classical accompaniment. He has composed several pieces of work for the London Children’s Ballet (LCB) including Snow White in 2009, working with choreographer, Olivia Pickford and Snow White again in 2015, this time working with choreographer Jenna Lee.

In 2016 Richard and Jenna teamed up again to create their second ballet for the LCB, Little Lord Fauntleroy after the sell-out success of their first collaboration.

The ballet was based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic tale about a poor American boy who discovers he is heir to an English fortune. Through this little boy’s courage, quirky charm and eternal optimism, he gradually softens the heart of his fearsome old grandfather and restores his broken family. The production is filled with drama and humour, and is designed to engage and inspire audiences of all ages.

In 2010 Richard worked with Richard Alston arranging and performing excerpts from his 1996 Beyond Measure production.
